The poster is divided into three parts that capture the key aspects of the disease: its origin and conception, the evolution of treatment and its current vision. The clock, in addition to enclosing these elements, alludes to the shape of DNA and its relationship to time.
In the upper part, the X-linked inheritance and the mutation in the genes of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) and coagulation factor IX (FIX), causing Hemophilia A and B, respectively, associated with bleeding, are represented. Because of this, the X chromosome becomes a tissue from which blood droplets fall like sand through the clock.
To expose its connotation as an "orphan disease", its historical origin and its transmission inherited by all European royalty, Queen Victoria, who encloses her son, Prince Leopold, who died at the age of 31 from this disease, is at the center, like a Matrioshka.
The central part covers the development of the treatment, from blood transfusions to "recombinant DNA" technology, which allowed the synthetic design of DNA pieces (plasmids) containing the FVIII and FIX genes, which are then copied and multiplied in bacteria, and give rise to recombinant proteins, which constitute the drug to which patients have access today. From this space, the last drop of blood falls to the third part.
At the bottom is Lycoris radiata, an Asian flower that represents rebirth and coming back to life. Originally it is completely red, but in this case the red color is acquired as the drop of blood falls until it is completely stained. This flower symbolizes the motto of the World Federation of Hemophilia "Adapting to change: Preserving care in a new world".
